"Every kid needs a Champion" by Rita Pierson, TED talk

40-year-old veteran teacher has it right: every kid needs a champion! Rita Pierson talks about relationships with students and how effective it is to focus on the positive. She says, "kids don't learn from people they don't like." Many parents of the gifted experience this tug between the learning and the child's desire to go to school. E-gifted believes that the best learning happens when relationships are positive. Students need to believe in themselves! Teachers need to model that belief and send them positive messages.  E-gifted students develop the "strut" that Ms. Pierson talks about in this TED talk.  This is a TED talk you do not want to miss!

The human connections students build will benefit them later in life.  Students should be bubble wrapped with positive comments and attitudes from those around them.

Welcome to E-gifted's Blog

Parents, Teachers, Educators, and Students!

We are excited to begin a blog about innovative ideas, trends in education, gifted strategies, and anything that relates to our mission or values.  We strive to nurture talent every day.  We encourage all our followers to take on this mission for themselves and their gifted child.  Nurturing your talents should be at the forefront of your mind everyday. If you are a poet, or love creative writing, what are you doing every day that enriches this talent? Are you writing in a journal everyday? Are you a part of a writing group? Are you taking an online class?

Not only are we all about nurturing talent, we specialize in gifted teaching strategies that are grounded in educational theory and proven to be successful in research.  We are confident in our curriculum because it was written with all these theories in practice.  Our co-founders, Jennifer Gordievsky and Deborah Hazelton, are both professors at USC, training student teachers striving to earn their teaching credential and Master degree in the Art of Teaching.  Below is a picture of our co-founders at the recent USC graduation! Fight on!

Our blog will address many ideas we are seeing in the education world. We plan on sharing cool videos that you can share with your children or students.  We will have TED Tuesdays, where we blog about certain TED talks we have watched and how they connect to theory, trends, or E-gifted ideas.  We hope you interact with our blog by commenting and sharing our entries!

Thank you!
